Marigold for Goya

Medium: Various tissues, papers & cardstock

Size: 8″ x  10″

Technique:  Paper painting

Description:  The first installation for my “Artists as Flowers” series.  Artist as Flowers translates traditional painting movements into paper painting and paying tribute to various artists of the past.

In his life, Francisco Goya was known for his realistic depictions of the Spanish royal court.  Posthumously, he is more known for his horrific prints of the Peninsula War and his darker paintings.

I chose to create a Marigold For Goya as marigolds are symbolic of grief and despair in some cultures.  I’ve rendered the Marigold in darker shades to represent some of his dark thoughts.
